I. Structures and Features

The YNJX160 bucking machine adopts a planetary jaw (cam) clamping mechanism in the power tong. Four sets of planetary gears drive four cams arranged at 90° intervals, and the cams are clamped through friction bands. This structure provides a wide clamping range, high overall strength, and requires no tooling changes. The backup tong uses three hydraulic cylinders positioned at 120° intervals for make-up and break-out operations. It also features a wide clamping range, high structural strength, no need for tooling replacement, and can achieve clamping without leaving marks.


Power Tong Assembly

A. The power tong adopts an enclosed tong head to clamp the coupling. It is fixed to the base and does not move with the threads.

B. The power tong is driven by dual hydraulic motors, capable of bidirectional rotation. It supports automatic two-speed shifting and automatic reversing for make-up and break-out operations.

C. Clamping mechanism: Four cams are driven by planetary gears to perform clamping. Each cam is equipped with a die, forming four-point uniform clamping around the 360° circumference of the coupling. The clamping force is automatically proportional to the applied torque — the greater the torque, the deeper the dies bite into the coupling, and vice versa. This design ensures minimal die marks on the coupling while achieving the required torque.


Backup Tong Assembly


A) The backup tong adopts a three-cylinder enclosed clamping mechanism to grip the pipe body. It is mounted on a sliding carriage and can move along with the threads during make-up and break-out operations.

B) Clamping is achieved through synchronized actuation of the three cylinders, controlled by a synchronous motor. The motor ensures synchronization but does not rotate.

C) A tension/compression sensor is installed on the backup tong support to accurately measure the torque during make-up and break-out. Torque is calculated by multiplying the measured force by the length of the moment arm.

D) The forward and backward movement of the backup tong is driven by a pneumatic cylinder, with a maximum stroke of 0.8 meters.

E) The backup tong has a slight floating capability to accommodate fine threads and minor bending of the workpiece.

F) The maximum pass-through diameter of the backup tong is Ø180 mm.
